Audi A2 1.4 AUA - Cut out on m/way oil symbol in dash came on while coming to a stop, non start #

Year of Manufacture *: 2001
Engine Code or Type *: 1400 AUA
( Optional ) Scanner used: VAG COM

A2 1.4 AUA Petrol 1390cc car cut out on motorway oil symbol in dash came on while coming to a stop and now wont start.

WAUZZZ8ZZ1N018989 model code 8Z0014 engine AUA gearbox FDM

We have the above Audi A2 in at the moment it cranks over ok but wont fire.
No communication with engine ECU using VAG com. Connecting to other ECU’s ok.
Other ECU’s report connection problem with engine ECU.

Malfunction indicator light not coming on with ignition so am assuming it’s a voltage supply problem IE relay fuse etc.

I have checked all the fuses in the main fuse box and all ok.

With the fuel pump relay pulled out the fuel pump can be operated with a power brobe. And when refitting the relay the pump runs for a few seconds as normal.

Injectors are not switching.

Good voltage at coil.

Has anyone got any pin out data for ECU or are there any common problems that may cause this fault.

Hi
Was the oil light orange or red ???
Have you code read all systems including dash,
Can you carry out output test on dash to see if MIL works, or trying going in on OBD & see if that works, If you can, check MIL status.
Have you scoped to crank sensor for output ???

Hello Ian Thanks for the replie.

That was a good idea to test the dash in instrumentation.

yes MIL works when tested through instrumentation.

2 faults logged in instrumentation.
No com with engine ECU and No com with power steering.

When we towed the car back I gave it a quick bump start to see if it would go and the oil warning in dash came on then. i think it was red but not 100%.

I will check the crank sensor tomorow.

Have you checked engine oil level yet and engine oil pressure when cranking?

OIl level is ok but have not checked oil pressure.

No communication with engine ECU using VAG COM diagnostics. Connecting to other ECU’s ok.

Other ECU’s report connection problem with engine ECU.

I am thinking that the ECU has failed in some way due to the fact that the malfunction light is not coming on with the ignition.

But it does come on when running through output tests on dash ECU.

No volts to injectors and fuel pump relay not coming on when cranked.

I have checked all lives and earths at ECU and all ok.

I have checked the can bus signals from engine ecu to dash insert by disconnecting ABS and dash ECU's and probing into the multi plug behind the dash. Getting a signal on both high and low signals. Both signals adding to 5v

The immobilizer symbol on the dash comes on when ignition turned on and goes off after a few seconds.

I am sending the engine ECU for testing Monday morning so hopefully will get a report back on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The only thing I want to do Monday is just check crankshaft signal. But the fact that mill not on with ignition is suggesting problem with one of the ECU's as I assume signal to turn light on and on is sent by CAN BUS.

Sorry to not reply again earlier (few days off)
If the crank sensor has no output I think you are correct in your diagnosis of ECU.
These ECU are Immo pin coded, you will need to get this before you even think of changing it.

Have you removed the ecu yet. ?? We had one a couple of weeks back with what appeared to be water in the ecu multiplug, ( oily like antifreeze ) it had corroded the ecu terminals, so we cleaned it up and greased the pins and advised the customer to either trade it in or get ready for a bill for a new harness and ecu. The Ecu was well up off the floor and the harness goes uphill to the ecu, so the water had capilliaried up the harness into the multiplug, the car floor was totally dry which looked unusual.

( Or the water had been forced up the harness due to the movement of the vehicle. ?? )

This vehicle had been to the dealers several times for an egr fault and the dealers could not stop the light from coming back on. ( possibly caused by the same problem ) ??

Thanks for the replies.

The ECU pins are all lovely and clean.

So ECU has gone away for testing.
Hopefully will get reply back Wednesday.

I may have made a mistake thinking that the Engine ECU CAN BUS was producing a signal as I hadnt counted on the aircon ECU being connected as well.

I had a chat with an Audi mechanic and he told me to look in dada block 125 I think and check for can bus signal. You get a 1 or a 0.
had 0 for engine 1 for ABS 1 for HVAC.

So could have saved myself a lot of time.

Have you not checked supply voltage to the ecu,normaly when the engine light doesn't come on its lost a feed, bee surprised if ecu is faulty.

ECU is away at testers so will know in a day or so.
