Rhisiart, Family originally hail from Merthyr, but I'm Pontypool born and bred - what was once a thriving commercial centre in South East wales is now but a ghost town, many of the locals are ashen faced just trying to survive - its most sad to see what's happened to our primary and secondary manufacturing and much of this decline was evident prior to Thatcherism, but occurred when the UK was a full member of the EEC/EU - the fact remains under unrestrained capitalism money/investment moves to the cheapest place to exploit - I've witnessed this firsthand in the South China Sea, we now have cheap manufacturing moving from China to Vietnam, at least our Chinese peers are moving into high end manufacturing, rather than building an economy on services that provide little by way of real employment. Alas, its all Brexit's fault rather than recognise some home truths and underlying trends that can only be reversed if we move away from perpetual growth - one reason i like the musing of John Micheal Greer, a great shame he closed down the Archdruid Report, which was essential reading.
