It's perhaps a perculiar discussion? For example, some of my old libertarian friends in the United States, argued that the country had been under the yoke of a form of state socialism since the New Deal and things had only gotten worse, with the state swallowing more and more of the national budget, especially for the military and swallowing people's freedom as well. One can say that the role of the vast military spending, over a trillion dollars a year, is to act as a state-funded stimulus for the economy as a whole, especially in the field of primary research. Is that 'socialism' too? Is Corporatism or Fascism a varient of socialism, linked to the idea of socialism for the rich?
