But now the UK's voice is gonna be smaller and presented in a smaller forum. In a world that's even harsher economically than it was fifty years ago, and the harshness of that world, should we forget, was the prime reason for wanting to join the European Union, or Common Market in the first place. If Europe was gonna have a future it simply had to come together and form a powerful block that could defend and nuture its economic interests, in a dynamic and challenging global marketplace.

Now, of course, Britain has chosen, voted, or collapsed into a position where its' standing and prestige, influence, brand... has been massively, historically damaged. The UK revealed as something close to a madhouse ruled over by the patients who believe they are Napoleon, Elizabeth the first, Churchill or King Arthur, often at one and the same time, spinning around in an idiotic dance of the deranged. This isn't a flattering image to present to the world. And it was all so unecessary, all so pointless, all so self-imposed.

It reminds me of that famous poem by Lord Tennyson, the Charge of the Light Brigade. How wonderfully he changed a total military fiasco into a great romantic, symbolic, victory. And that's what the British elite have been doing ever since, managing to turn historic defeats and decline into 'moral' victories. It's pathetic and tragic. All that incredible waste, for nothing really. Who remembers what the Crimean War was about? Or the Boer War? Or WW1, WW2? And Brexit is, in many ways, similar. The big difference now is that the scale of the incompetence, the scale of the defeat, cannot be hidden by art and propaganda, beause it's so obvious. People can actually see the heart of government disintegrating before their very eyes.
