As a one time avid reader of The Guardian, both digital and print versions, the rot set in circa 2010, until that time CIF was brilliant with regular folks usually having more interesting things to say than the articles they were commenting on - CIF had an informed bunch, too informed for many of the Grauniad hacks, especially the columnists who earn the big time bucks. The actually change in ownership structure came at the tail end of Rushbriger's rule circa 2008 when he virtually abolished the Scott Trust, this allowed them to sell off the family silver and ensured the Revised Oversight Board was highly neoliberal in attitudes - suffice to say, The Grauniad and Observer reached their nadirs during the first and second Corbyn election cycles in 2015/2016 - i stopped reading the rag in september 2016 and ain't missed it, they've missed my money though as they now beg for funding.
