The ways people do doublethink on themselves are complex. But - agreeing with Scrabb - the famous Upton Sinclair quote catches it perfectly: when a person's pay, and therfore their all-important social standing, are involved, they'll manage their necessary doublethink one way or another, wilful naivety or nasty cynicism. Official line-toeing in any case.
