For me, the fault in both your arguments is the classification off the people you are criticising as "journalists". From Websters dictionary: 1a : the collection and editing of news for presentation through the media b : the public press c : an academic study concerned with the collection and editing of news or the management of a news medium 2a : writing designed for publication in a newspaper or magazine b : writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation c : writing designed to appeal to current popular taste or public interest Of six different aspects of "journalism", only one (the one I haven't highlighted) would meet the criteria we might expect of "journalists". Let's face it. Lamestream "journalists" are nothing but presenters of "news", be it on TV, radio or newspaper. Most of what the present is either almost unedited press releases from the global giants, the security services, or "leaked" from politicians. There may be those blinded by belief such as Kuessenberg, there may be many who just take the sheckel, but there are very few who can do what 2c above defines as journalism, "writing characterized by a direct presentation of facts or description of events without an attempt at interpretation" If we reserve the use of the label for those like Blumenthal, Beeley, Palast, to name just a few, then it seems to me that we would all agree.
