Think it was posted and then something else posted too saying we'd better do nothing because if you planted in some areas it would actually further warm the planet. Sounded like strawman nonsense to me... Wherever trees have been there should still be at least a significant percent now. This struck me as strange though, right In The middle of the article with nothing else either side relating:"Avoiding meat and dairy is ‘single biggest way’ to reduce your impact on Earth " Given the subject matter doesn't make a great deal of sense. Excepting the us feedlot style farming, everywhere else in the world the farms growing livestock are the ones that have often significant stands of woods and forestation, because the two work well together. Only the alternative (food crops in our modern style of farming) make sure that all ground cover is removed (trees and forests, grasses, and everything between), then usually poisoned for good measure, then replanted with monocrops that are replaced every year and replenished with npk fertilisers. I know it's a popular thing to be saying beef is terrible for the environment, but the alternatives we are offering are too and imo probably worse. On both systems(and I'm comparing big agribusiness feedlot farming with large scale cropping) , they could be better if done sensibly and sustainably with no fewer people fed . But at present its all about the bottom line and not at all about anything else.
