Sympathies John. I am older than you and you are not alone in your thoughts and conclusions.
I think of my father who fought against fascism (and survived unlike millions of others). It seems to me that we (and I mean the collective populations) have not learnt any lessons.
PS My brother is a doctor (now retired and living in Devon) and some many years back, did an exchange with a doctor in Christchurch. Both families exchanged jobs and houses for six months as far as I remember.
