"It's no different from claiming that the Germans did 90% of the killing in WW2, meaning that the 10% killed by the UK put the blame for those deaths on the UK." The 90% claim is obviously an attempt to portray the "rebels" as some kind of little David to contrast with the powerful and quite indiscriminate murderous Assad as Goliath. as far as I, Assadist and non-apologist, and concerned, that's pretty much the end of it. -I must confess I have never understood the acceptance by Chomsky, the Davids, etc of this "Assad the monster" characterisation. Its been self evident all along that Assad has had the majority of the population of Syria behind him. How could it not be so in a situation where his opponents vision for Syria has been blatantly on display: that the Alawites and Shias be exterminated and the Christians driven into exile? That pretty much gives him the unbending allegiance of a solid 40% of the population and on top of that the non sectarian Sunni who do not want to live in the Salafi hellhole envisaged, which would be the majority. In my view Syria is lucky to have Assad.
