Apart from the awful fire and the destruction, did you notice that in the street outside, where the lovely old setts are missing (probably due to work by the privatised service companies - water, gas, electricity, telecoms etc) patches of tarmac have replaced them? The same situation exists in the town where I live. The county council spent over £1m a few years back relaying the High Street granite setts and replacing those that were missing. Already there are tarmac patches. |
