"one idea typically builds upon the shoulders of previous ideas over decades and centuries" What errant nonsense to claim such only for the physical sciences!...Your prejudices are on full display here....as are your assumptions....if state institutions only direct funding to profit making, exploitative projects which do you think suffer? We've talked about this before..but your dismissive attitude dissuades me from entering into yet another bash with you....take it from me I have seen and experienced "proofs" the like of which you seem completely unaware of (or more accurately don't want to be aware of because they would challenge your safe, cosy, restricted world view), ..do me a favour next year try to keep an open mind...and really examine the "dark matter" question.....are the observations of accelerating universal expansion proof enough? May be untested true....come up with a way of testing them and the hypothesis that informs them (which doesn't really exist in "conventional" science yet -I liken it to "going down the plug-hole" with the infant-), and you'll be a very famous man fella!
