You don't have to peddle pseuds to me - or anybody - we don't exist, right... Archived Message

But since you apparently believe I do - here's some advice: Try to make peace with yourself. If you enjoy the beauty of nature, the simple life (if you believe any of it exists), then just enjoy it. There is no need to participate in an ugly full-frontal attack on what we know - knowledge itself - in order to be thoughtful, in order to be creative, in order to question ideas, in order to be dignified. I know you won't take this advice. He is not a neuroscientist. This is not new physics. His video was sponsored by the "Institute of Arts and Ideas". Its right there in the video. The idea that the self is the center of the universe is not new. The idea that we live in a VR game is not new, and is mostly only promulgated as a psycho-trick to get into an endless troll game because its known to be unprovable. Or as an attack on objective reality simply for the purpose of bolstering the idea of a subjective one ("I think I am the center of reality, and I am telling you that everything you have been told otherwise is a lie"). Great! And if I don't go a long with it, I am showing my true arrogant colors! Woo-hoo! Yes, the earth is spherical. Yes, satellites orbit it. Good theories explain prior observations that were otherwise difficult to explain convincingly and good theories also make predictions that turn out to be unfalsifiable in subsequent tests. Yes, consciousness is none of the above. Its different. All of the above, is kinda common sense. You don't have to be a scientist, or even brainy, to figure it out. You can attack, you can brood about my responses if that is what you are doing, you can keep coming back to the subject, you can want this guy to be right if that is what you want and if it makes sense to you, but to try to convince me, without any reasoning or evidence, or videoed-debate, seems a little bit pointless. Fine, this is your belief. I accept it as your belief. What's the problem?
