Thanks for the information and direct news at the hospital end. I actually had viral pneumonia a few years back which turned into bacterial pneumonia after 5 days or so. Pretty nasty and not comparable to the ordinary flu. That this covid emergency requires a concerted response is clearly true. Certainly a huge boost must be given to the NHS to cope under the circumstances (this should have started two months ago -- indeed the NHS shouldn't have been run down over years). However, whether a prolonged nationwide lock down is the solution is very far from clear to me -- the more I think about it, the more I feel it's mistaken. We must bear in mind that 99.95% of the population is healthy (in the broad sense). For society to stop functioning for a prolonged period means a myriad of new problems. Already we have rises in mental health problems, suicides, domestic abuse, and now reports of food riots in Sicily. Then there are all the economic problems. And we've had little more than a week here in the UK. Not to know when it's over also makes it worse.
