Viral load - key question? Archived Message

I'm surprised the question of degree of viral load hasn't featured more prominently. Rather than being an absolute event - ie, catching 'the virus' - isn't the level of exposure a matter of degree?* Taking this into account might allow lockdown measures, or lockdown relief measures, to be appropriate to likely exposure levels. *Eg, results of a (too quick) search "...patients with severe COVID-19 tend to have a high viral load and a long virus-shedding period. This finding suggests that the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 might be a useful marker for assessing disease severity and prognosis." https://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(20)30232-2/fulltext "...the virus persists longer with higher load and peaks later in the respiratory tissue of patients with severe disease." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32317267
