Is 'outrageousness' something that can be confirmed? I thought this was an over-reaction on the part of Shyaku. There was no context given I recall. She was probably referring to the 1980s. Aerosol transmission of HIV must have been a concern in some medical circles, as it was still being discussed as a concern in 2010: Characterization of Aerosols Produced during Surgical Procedures in Hospitals "Recent concerns about the potential for transmitting blood-borne pathogens, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV), from infected patients to health care workers (HCWs) via inhalation of blood aerosols, particularly during orthopedic surgery, have generated anxiety about the potential hazards of providing surgical treatment for these patients (Day, 1988; Gold- man, 1988; Jewett, 1990; Johnson and Robinson, 1991)." https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/02786829408959736 Not necessarily 'outrageous', IMO.
