Hi Rhis. I thought the problem was asymptomatic transmission - you cough, then realize you met 75 people in the previous two days. Haven't checked it out lately though.
I read the article...He's happy innee..all the gush is offputting ("I absolutely LOVE Dr. Levitt", "watch this incredible video from just yesterday", "Guess what...") and suggests he was in a state of delirium when assembling figures and is very likely to be cherrypicking from them, as in the study claiming 15-20% threshold for that herd immunity that we don't know exists. They were all saying 60% at the start.
In terms of the deaths per 1m population, Sweden is fifth worst. Britain is second worst. At present all Sweden has definitely achieved loads of extra deaths.Herd immunity when we don't even know if there is immunity is a wild gamble.
These trends he quotes ignore the effects of interventions like lockdown without which the numbers would likely be far higher. It can only make sense to say that measures should be lifted if you believed they were not needed in the first place. That is Off-Guardian's position in fact.
The world cases gradient is still near 1 after months of measures, and people are gearing up to move about like mad. To claim the virus is all but gone seems bonkers.
I stopped reading after that so there may be sense elsewhere but I found the guy too breathless for my boring tastes, it was like Peggy from Hi-de-Hi reviewing the medial evidence But stay well whatever! Cheers (as it were)
