really know what has happened there, and is continuing to happen? There seems to be so much contention about the facts that I doubt you can actually justify the confident statements you make about it. Who could? No-one, I suspect. Reliable truth has definitely become one of the first casualties of this global panic. Doesn't stop lots of us being certain that we can still know it, though, of course. Weird how the terror has obliterated people's normal, simply precautionary scepticism, isn't it - especially amongst the supposedly dissident non-suckers... Much as I detest most of its output, I find myself agreeing repeatedly with the old Hollyshite aphorism: 'Nobody knows anything!' To which we should perhaps add in this case: 'But lots are damned sure that they do; absurdly so!'
