In case you didn't know there are some environmentalists wrestling with the same issues and drawing similar conclusions, eg: https://www.brightgreenlies.com/ Michaux, while providing an important reality check, is still 'solving for the wrong variable' as the BGL authors describe it, ie: trying to figure out how to sustain industrial civilisation vs: trying to sustain a living biosphere and a human population living dignified, meaningful lives as part of that. Michaux is apparently taking on the first challenge, including acceptance of the need for 'growth' (fair enough, it might just be his remit on this paper). He nowhere considers the option of drastically de-powering and re-localising society so consumption of resources is brought down instead of attempting to maintain current levels with insane, planet-devouring efforts that his figures suggest are needed. Maybe he doesn't see it as his job to make that argument, but it rather limits the debate to just take the resource demands of late-stage capitalism as a given rather than a one-time blow-out we're going to have to recover from. cheers, I
