We have pigs' trotters here for breakfast followed by bacon butties with Daddies brown sauce, 2 cwt of Bury black pudding for dinner with cold tripe dressing and cow heel pie (Desperate Dan size) for tea. How d' you think Cyril Smith got to be that size?

ps . On a serious note, the town hall restaurant, named Martlet after a mythical bird depicted in the ceiling of the great hall, is excellent and the prices are reasonable. Only complaint -- they served a pastie in a bowl soaked in gravy instead of in a separate jug.

-I was hoping you were serious: it all sounds good to me!

Daddies sauce is a blast from the past...though I still use Worcester & Hendersons cooking.
What's the deal with Bury black pudding? The superior item here is Stornoway which I reckon is due to them using beef dripping instead of lard.

Bury is about six miles away and has acquired a reputation (don't know why) for producing the best black pudding, made of pigs' blood. We have it for breakfast every Sunday, though many people hereabouts can't stand the stuff.

Black pudding is popular round there parts too (Black country). One of the greatest sarnies of all is bacon and egg, with a couple of slices of black pudding but you've got to have a runny yolk to dribble all over the pudding. Epic.

Not bad btw...not up to Stornoway, but not bad at all.

I'm always amazed when southerners portray Black pudding as this weird peculiarly northern English "oik" food: its just as popular in Scotland and elsewhere and always has been...just as its otherwise also a common feature in nearly every traditional European cuisine.

Also, the fraudian has been publishing some hang-wringing "Actually this might be genocide, we should do something" type articles lately (one from Pseuds Corner regular Jonathon Liew about FIFA failure to take on the apartheid state for example). So he may be taking this minor breakthrough of truth as appalling anti-semitism.

I notice in the quoted message he mentions sending Viner a "...back channel emails every time the guardian has published another outrage." which seems to line up with what I said above. Do you think he sent her one when Jacobsen's filth was published? I fucking doubt it.

I find it quite disturbing as being a bit of a foodie I've always been entertained by his writing and I really can't see any of the supposed "outrages" being anything more than the meek mild Israel critical stuff the Observer has occasions
