    Team breakaway you are correct, when you cast your bait out any distance (130yrds plus) without a breakaway type sinker the moment you feel or see your rod move the fish has already paid your bait a visit and has already left.
    Hence when you use a breakaway sinker and use a recurved type hook dont have the drag set too tight so the fish can pull line from the reel with the wieght of the sinker and the grip wires in the sand the fish should set the hook itself.
    I have found that you should spread the grip wires so as they are not too tight in the sinker so when you want to retrieve your line you dont need a tow truck to break the grip of the sinker in other words fish your sinker to suit the conditions you just need enough tension on the grip wires to hold your bait out there and to set the hook.
