Parcel thieves have been and gone.

We just returned from the dentist; Joan was getting fitted for new false teeth;$4000.
A message on the phone, "I left your parcel on the front landing, I hope that`s ok"
There is nothing on the front landing or anywhere else around the house; $400 worth of Joan`s new clothes are gone.

So you were actually expecting the parcel then Leon, or is it a scam?

If someone has stolen it, then it is bad news, if a scam it could be equally as bad.

Not sure how the UK scam works, but it starts by being told that a courrier tried to leave a parcel, you then have to call them, and so the scam begins.

Who needs a signature anyway......

Its common in the the UK Leon. Most couriers ring the bell and leave it outside and hope no one steals it. Amazon leave the parcel outside and dont ring the bell so parcel is often left out for the next night in the rain. I have 2 CCTV cameras watching the road and pavement outside the front and rear doors with recording. personally, i have not had any stolen yet.
Of course, it is the suppliers problem if the courier loses your parcel by leaving it outside.

They nearly always get delivered to the wrong address in Woodbury the housed on the Broadway road the numbering is just ridiculous there are at least eight number Ones on a stretch between my house two hundred yards or so ther are five No1

You've ordered something to be delivered, you should have a tracking code long before delivery. Any parcel deliverer either leaves the parcel or a company card. Parcel delivery company card left has the company 'phone number on it.

When you get an email out of the blue claiming to have a parcel for you, without any tracking code, should be bleeding obvious it's a scam ...?

I like the Amazon scams telling me i have a parcel coming. I never buy from Amazon as they leave all parcels outside in the rain even. Most couriers that deliver here ring the bell and others know to put the parcel in the side entrance and greenhouse.
Biggest item went missing was a ladder which was lost at the couriers yard. Someone there must have needed a 200 pound ladder

Certainly to some extent thankfully, none of the big parcel deliverers (Amazon, Evri, UPS, etc.) actually deliver here, they hand over to local contractors in Inverness or one of the towns along along the southern Moray Firth coast. Then certainly some of those local contractors actually live 'round here; certainly in my case, if no-one in, parcels are left in a shed (not locked), under the barbie, in a car (not locked). My place is 1/4 mile from the nearest road, two miles from the nearest village, no chance of a neighbouring sheep or passing eagle nicking a parcel. Sometimes something to be said for the nearest human only visible in the distance.

I might speak to the neighbour who is elderly and spends a lot of time on his front veranda looking at the"passing parade".

Hi Leon,

Don't know how it works legally in Oz but, thankfully, here in GB, if the deliverer doesn't have proof they delivered it (signature and/or photo.), it's the sender's problem, as the sender contracted the deliverer. Some senders are dickheads so, if a sender won't either send more stuff or give a refund, I can just set whoever I paid with (credit card company or Paypal) on 'em, they require proof of delivery from the sender or they just take the refund off 'em.

Leon, it might be the start of a scam so don't reply to the number sent in the phone message but get the courier's number off the web.

Maybe it wasn't your parcel and they mis-dialled & called the wrong number?

That's interesting Stuart, I often come home to find parcels outside the door which anyone could have walked off with. I get a photo showing it via email.

Can a supplier really absolve themselves of responsibility in that situation. A sort of we left it outside, here is proof it's your problem now?

We get sent those photos, usually of our parcel outside someone else's house. That's not proof of delivery to us and we have never had any problem getting refunds or replacements.

I believe these mis-deliveries are down to drivers not having the time, patience or local knowledge to find the right house. Just as long as they can photo the parcel outside a door will satisfy their employer even if the door is miles and miles away from the right door!

I had a parcel from Amazon with number 2o house number but i am number 2 .Left outside as usual so i delivered it. I did order something from ebay but amazon delivered that and left outdoors.
The rules are the supplier must make sure you get it and if their courier leaves it in a stupid place, the courier pays the supplier and the supplier refunds or sends another item. One delivery driver thought it was a good idea to place a parcel in my recycling bin and it got collected. The photo they showed of the item in the bin was very funny when i claimed.
I have emailed a few suppliers telling them my parcel is in reach of everyone walking along the pavement and on a busy school route. Not had any stolen though but if i do, there will be 2 different videos showing who it is.
I pity these drivers under so much pressure. There were a few OAPs delivering until the police asked for their multi-drop delivery car insurance. My Nephew got caught on that and lucky the police just told him off. His insurance for multi drop local deliveries was 1700 pounds for a car so he got it added to the business insurance for the family business vehicles at a much lower cost for fleet cover. One local woman working for EVRI was doing well and financed a brand new hatchback from her delivery wages but she also got caught and gave up deliveries

How do the Delivero riders get away with it riding on L plates, no way they could get insurance cover for doing delivery work riding on a provisional driving licence.

I sold a few surplus Yam DT bits to a bloke via E Bay a couple of years back.

He claimed it was never delivered despite me having photo evidence to the contrary.

Long story short he said that the photo was not one of the parcel by his front door, I checked using Google Street View, and yes, it was definatley not his front door.

Anyway I got my money back so not complaining.

Who needs a signature anyway......

Where I am there's no google street view. Even google maps is sketchy. Both contribute to couriers giving up and leaving parcels at any house they think might possibly on a good day with a fair wind be somewhere almost relatively close.
