As far as the parking they recommend you park at places like the General Motors World Headquarters (the Renaissance Center), Joe Louis Arena, etc., and take the shuttle buses which are free. This is actually a great system with the only flaw being is after the race when you walk out to where the shuttle buses are the lines can be long. The last time the wife and I did this we just walked the approximately mile and a half back to the Renaissance Center. Nice walk along the Detroit River with restaurants and bars to stop at if you choose. A few years ago the company I worked for got the HVAC contract for the new Martin Luther King High School they were building in Detroit about a 1/2 mile from Belle Isle. While working there I figured out there was actually plenty of parking in the neighborhood around Belle Isle, and we've just parked on the streets in that neighborhood every since. I've never heard of anybody's car being messed with or any problems during race weekend. The street that runs along the south side of Detroit and runs along the Detroit River is Jefferson Ave. Belle Isle is in the middle of the Detroit River, and you can park in the neighborhood literally a block from Jefferson, and you just walk out to Jefferson, and walk across the bridge to Belle Isle, and yes if you look to the south of Detroit you see Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Detroit is north of Canada. As far as the view probably not the best fan friendly road course, but when I was at Indy for the F1 races sitting in the front stretch my view was the track in front of me and the bleachers across from me. I didn't think that was too fan friendly either. They do have huge jumbo screens by all the bleechers that when your not watching the cars go by in front of you can watch the racing on the screens like you were watching it on TV. I've always sat right by the start/finish line looking across the track at the pits. You can also sit on the side of the pits, but I don't think you'd get a view of the pit stops. They do pack a lot of racing into the 3 day weekend between the IndyCar Series, Tudor Sports Car Series, Pirelli World Challene Sports Car Series, and Robby Gordon's Speed Energy Formula Off Road Truck Series. They make the pits very accessible. I have just as much fun hanging out in the pits walking around and watching them work on the cars and you never know who you may run into. The wife and I ran into Patrick Dempsey one year, and of course there are the actual drivers you can see at any given moment. Boris Said loves to hang out and talk to the fans. One year a budy of mine and myself talked to Colin Braun for about a half hour, and then there's also the drivers you'll never see. It's like they're not even there, and they magically appear when it's time to get in the car for practice, qualifying or the race. Any way, if you're thinking of going one year we'll talk more.
