When I lived in the Bay of Plenty I caught my limit on the odd occasion but never once killed my limit. If the limit was reduced by the minister it would make no difference to me.
I don't understand why you wish to involve Asian interests or those who use kontiki/torpedoes in this thread. In this area they catch very few snapper so it's a non sequitur. New Zealand lives or dies on its exports, this message has been driven home in the press all day.
A reduction in the limit of snapper, a limit we rarely catch and when we do we put them back, is just scaremongering on all sides.
You can bet your life this coming week the angling press will be on a high horse once again. Shades of 'the Snapper Fighting Fund, and 'Kahawai, the People's Fish. This, as usual will achieve nothing other than sell a few more papers, keeping the editorial staff and the paper's owners happy.
