I switched to braid when it first became popular, and I experienced the problem exactly as you have described and this was on an egg beater type reel - I quickly switched back to nylon.

However, when the newer braids came out I thought I would give them another try. I have to say the problem never arose again; but I do emphasize this was with an open face reel not an overhead.

That is an excellent post, jaypeegee, full of information based on personal experience. I will never change to an overhead reel, too old in the teeth, but I really enjoy reading posts such as that.
