Abu Veritas Pro.

Finally got my hands on the NEW Veritas Pro Surf which is due for release in September. This is a step up from the current Veritas Surf. It is a 3 piece 14'6". It has oval low rider guides and an extended EVA grip.
It looks great and casts great too. Mark Roberts and I took it to the beach this afternoon and put it through its paces with an overhead, freespool reel. It is a delight to cast being light and responsive. I am no great caster with overheads but easily managed well over 100m. Mark cast considerably further. We didnt get near fully loading it.
IT just needs a little tarting up and tweaking and it will be ready for summer.

This is the final prototype evolved from that one. This is a stiffer action and a bit faster. I will show you next week. Meet you at the wharf.

Can you guarantee that? How will it stack up against other rods like the 6 n bait or anglers with poor casting technique?

Good evening all, GK turned up at work today with his new toy . The first thing that hits your eye is the Lowrider Guides the bloody things are oval , ha you say they must have been damaged in transit, but no that's the way they have been manufactured . Now the doughters out there are going to say lowrider guides don't work or won't work , but they do.
Marks right, I also would fish with this rod.
For the stuff you want to know. First of all it casts along way and you don't need to be a great caster to achieve good distances. A simple overhead thump should achieve 150m with a clipped down rig.
The action is good , the tip to 1/3 of the rod does most of the work and the tip recovery is very good .
The guides are awesome and the blank is a bit more robust than the earlier model , it also has Japanese type shrink rap on the but section.
All in all an excellent rod for the money.
AndyG asked how it compared to a 6 and bait , well it's going to be at least half the price and your mother should be able cast it without injury. As for poor casting technique, no rod can fix that, only you can, with the help of your club mates at casting days.
PS this rod will also suit overhead reels we didn't get a chance to try one today as there was ice forming on GKs mustach.

Yep, tests were done in Foxton, Foxton Antarctica that is. Phill and I settled the guide spacings and cast the line right accross the Manawatu River at the Foxton wharf. mTry your range finder on that. And that was with a headwind and later a angled sidewind. WE consentrated on the guides which are Fuji C oval low riders. There was never a hint of any tangling or choking. Speed through the guides was supurb with no slack line that we could see. When these rods come on the market I am going to have some working demo rods for everyone to try without having to buy. Your first look at the guide set up (if you are not a competition caster) will have you wondering what it is that rod designers smoke. Once you try it you will want to change over any other rods you have. First cast you will think that you have broken off as the guides are silent (No friction ).
You can expect to get a close look at these sometime before Xmas.

Hi Hangler , should be around the $300.00 around that sort of price . I am shaw GK will confirm as soon as he can . Isn't great to have a couple of good rods in this price bracket excellent value for money .
Shall I put you down for two of them Hangler .
I also believe we will have some rods to trash before you buy.

If you imagine the old rod with black shrink wrap from the reel seat to the butt and then turn the rod around until you can't see the guides and that's pretty much what it looks like.
The blank has been beefed up in the middle and the top of the bottom section.

Hey, Phill, You voiced your disapproval at the omission before. I will take a chance and ask again, does the new model come with a rod bag?

I can get rid of my two old models on TradeMe. The release date is good as the surfcasting season is just starting to warm up at the time of this new rods release.

Sorry if this is a taboo subject but I like to look after my gear, especially when it is in my small vehicle, and at the price can you blame me?

Personally, I am very pleased at this news. I suppose it will p*ss off the anglers who wish to buy there own bags, but I am genuinely pleased this small over-site has been put to rights.

I suppose it will make no difference to those who carry their rods assembled on the roof of their vehicle. However, for those of us who like to look after our gear, and thereby get the maximum return when we sell off for a new model, something simple like a rod bag is a huge help. A rod bag is as important as washing the rod and reel with fresh water at the end of a session.

In my seventy plus years, I have done more damage to rods (especially bending and breaking eyes) in transit than I ever have through normal beach use.

Seeing rods in use with electrician's tape holding the eyes in place tends to make me think this is quite a common problem. I might also add when I ran the fishing tackle shop in Kawerau, broken eyes were without doubt the most common repair job to come in. These were sent to Greg Smeal for repair. Don't hear much about Greg and Angela now, the last I heard he had been taken poorly.

Could care less about rodbags myself as the std ones that come with rods are very lightweight and really offer very little in the way of protection imho. When I am traveling a long way the rods will go into a heavy duty sonik bag just to keep them in one tight bundle but normal trips they just put in the wagon .

Guides getting broken is just a fact of life.
They are only bits of wire and ceramic after all.

The only time my Fin-nor rods come out of their tubes is to be cleaned after a trip out fishing and when I get to the beach. At home or in the car they are in their protective tubes as I paid good money for them and want them to stay mint.

I assume the casting day in Fielding Oct 5 is still on. If so, it would be a good place to show the rod as there are a lot of out of town people like me that intend to be there.

Just wish the rod was available as unpainted. Not sure why, but I just can not get over a white rod.
