Well I suppose it's ok . This rod will definitely move the goal posts. I just hope that people keep an open mind until they try it out with the Lowriders.

Yeah that is the one thing that some may have trouble coming to grips with. That is why I am going to make sure that we have a good demo program so that people can try before they buy.
For those that havnt tried low rider guides before they work on the idea that the coils of line from the spool of a spin reel are reduced at the first guide and then there is no (little) friction through the rest of the guides when the cast is made. That means more distance for you. These guides are also tangle free.
Anyway, my idea is to have our top shops with demo rods so anglers can have a cast with the rod before purchase.

I have three rods with Lowriders, CD Tournament 2, CD XD Surf 13ft converted and a Okuma Solaris 13ft converted. The XD Surf you can feel the smoothness of the line through the guides over the standard conventional guides, to the point where people have tried the rods back to back they think the line has broken on the Lowrider rod.
The other huge advantage of the Lowrider guides is their reliability, guide rapes are a thing of the past,side wind is no longer an issue.
Please give them a try you will be impressed with the smoothness.
As I said before I have a few rods with these guides give me a call if you are down this way and we can go and give them a blast.

I have cast it with a Penn Squall 15 Mag.and it goes OK. There are plenty that will do the job though.
Depends if you are just fishing or casting.

I have just received the following reply to an Email I sent to a leading fishing supplies retailer, do you agree.

Thanks for your email and apologies for the late response. The Veritas rod is a spin rod, so it is not advisable to use an overhead reel on it.

I am trying to decide whether to put my Abu 6500 CT Chrome Rocket on a Veritas or a Kilwell rod primarily for fishing.

Hi there casters and thanks Neil. I will be in tomorrow with the rod for you to have a look at. Abu Man, The new Veritas, that will not be on the market for few weeks yet, is built with oval low rider guides. Perfect for overhead reels as well as spin reels. Testing has been carried out with the new Veritas by Mark Roberts noted caster of overhead reels with his Akiosreel and he reached distances out to over 170 metres. Phill Kettle and I cast with spin reels and easily acheived the same distances.
Proved itself to me.

Hi ABU Man, I have one on order for you. These rods have to be the best value for money I have seen yet.
Being able to be an overhead or a fixed spool rod gives you incredible versatility and the lowrider guides fantastic reliability.
I would not be put off by the man at Pure fishing he may have been confused with the old model which was purely fixed spool rod.

Hi,I thought where the guides are in relation to the spine of the blank determines whether it is a overhead or spin rod or is that old school stuff.

Not that I have seen , don't get me wrong Kilwell have some good product but not for this sort of money. One of the features of the Veritas is the weight or lack of it which also contributes to making it a very user friendly weapon.
Gary is pushing the envelop with the guide type and configuration.The tip recovery is also very good which also enhances reliability smoothness when casting.

The Kilwell recommended is the Powerp;ay 222 FXL. However at around $750 it's a bit pricey.

It seems it is, I was just identifying the Kilwell that is supposedly the best equivalent but at a greater price. Wouldn't it be great to have a casting day where various rods (and reels) could be compared one with the other. I have done a lot of research online both for rods and reels and it is difficult to actually compare the various brands. At the end of the day I have a budget that I wish to spend and am trying to get the best value that I can within that budget. Luckily there are many excellent forums online that help in the process (including the TT forum).

Just spent half an hour with Brad from Rotorua Club on the shores of Lake Rotorua casting the new Veritas. He was impressed and pointed out that it was the quietest rod he had cast. The reason for the quietness is that there is very little friction on the line as it travels through the guides. That lack of friction means more distance.
He commented that it was casting a great distance and the crinkly line that came off his reel proved he was in new territory.
I believe we have another convert.

Asbjorn yes it is white but with a rap on the butt section. Much better protection from rod stands etc.

I had a cast with one the other day. I'm a hack caster but still got decent throw with it. Looks like a good rod for the money.

I'm still a bit miffed at Phills $300 +/- comments. The original Veritas still retails (believe it or not) at up to $329. How can the more advanced, newer "Pro" model be similar in price? Or even lower?

Don't get me wrong I'm not silly enough to pay that price. I have a Veritas and paid 225 with free postage. I am happy with my purchase.

I will look forward to seeing the new rod and the attached price...Any ideas of where I might be able to test drive one in Tauranga ( or BOP) when they are released?

Come on Trev, its time to upgrade and these rods are perfect for you. They are light and handle big west coast snapper with ease. They almost cast themselves too which would help you. Give Phill a call and order a couple.

Gary I am a bit perplexed and confused with these new low rider oval line guide thingies. You see my reel spool is a round one. So my line is going to get very confused when I cast. Its comes off round then has go oval to go through the oval thingies. Then when I wind in, hopefully with a fish. Well its the reverse, will my oval loops go back on my round spool in the right way. I have been on the net looking for a reel with an oval spool, but can't seem to find anything. Its shift change now and the afternoon nurse always makes me a nice cup of milo and sneaks me a few gingernuts. I have to dunk them now, as they took my teeth off me a few weeks back as I was doing naughty things to the nurses bottoms with them.

My new mobility scooter arrives next week. It is a four wheel drive one. And instead of a flag holder I got them to put a rod holder on instead. So if I save up my pension and get one of these new fangled Teritas rods I might be able to sneak out and have a fish. Bait is a bit of a problem here. Do snapper like gingernuts , as I could save some up.

There is a few of us old surfcasters here Gary. But alas none of us has a proper rod these days. We had a show and tell the other day. The nurses all clapped and shrieked with laughter as we compared our rods. Quite a few jelly tips were produced, and slim lines. I just had my Predator for all to see. We had a casting comp the other day. I won with 11.5 metres. Does that National Body, you mention from time to time. Have a category for us. Cant wait to get my new Veritas, then I will win show and tell. The winner gets three mellowpuffs, yum yum, Im drooling already.

Be very careful Hardy, remember those who carry white sticks are visually impaired, it could be a case of the blind leading the blind.

Do you really wish to show the nurses your squashed ring? Better still why not take your teeth out and show them your bite indicator.

If you wish for a reinforced butt I would suggest some thermal shorts, this way the nurses can get a grip whether you prefer to be mounted on top of underneath. Should you go wrinkly then just stay out of cold water, this is a problem for most males of senior years ... you would certainly need to change your name from 'Hardy'.

I would also suggest you stay well clear of ginger nuts, such contact would damage your reputation beyond any repair.

Why on earth would Phill's comment about herbal biscuits kill this thread. Surely a bit of tongue in cheek, self depreciating humour, as shown by Hardy, myself and Phill shows we have the ability to laugh at ourself.

If the new Veritas rod is as good as it is being promoted, then it will justly be awarded many accolades from proud owners. However, if deserving, there may be fair and just criticism no different to every other product on the market.

It will be interesting to 'watch this space'.

Nothing wrong with a bit of thread stealing GK. It goes on all the time here. Hangler you are a bit of a card, kinda on the same page as me. Well it is the middle of winter.

Tonite the escape committee had a secret meeting, and we discussed ways of getting out. An escape tunnel was suggested, but we came to the conclusion by the time we had tunneled to the adjacent football field, most of us would have karked it. So we went to Plan B.

I gave the night nurses some videos to watch of GK guiding Janpanese's folks in the far north. I told them they were those porny videos, as GK is wearing shorts. They got very excited when I told them that.

So while they are engrossed in that. Im gunna smash a fire alarm and set it off. When the fire engines arrive and chaos is alive and well. Im gunna sneak into the Nurses Station and open the safe. I know where they hide the the keys First thing I grab is my teeth, of course. Then the keys to the Mobility Scooters. And then we are free at last. The cops will never catch us as we disapair into the night. And then once again we will blend in with society.

You see we all want to buy one of these new Veritas rods. That is why we had to escape. They take all our money, so only by breaking out can we have some spare dosh. They can stick their gingernuts and mellowpuffs. I want a good steak, chips and eggs. And of course a Veritas. See GK we never really stole this thread. We were just so desperate to get one we had to mastermind the " Great Escape" and of course that starred Paul Newman and a great motorbike sequence. We will be kinda close to that on our mobilty scooters.

And Hangler Softy doesnt quite suit me

so I shall just remain Hardy.

Buggar GK now I am going to have to buy a Veritas Pro. Is it cheaper if I just get regular model, I am told anyhing connected with the word Pro can be somewhat expensive and dear to mantain.

The first 100 Veritas will have the label overhead (OH) These will be collectors rods as after that run, following rods will all be labled Low Rider (LR).
I was thinking of calling them the Cape Foulwind Special but didnt want to giveaway the name of our secret fishing spot Hardy.
Phill is taking names now so get in quick to get a rod or two from the first 100 that I hear are on their way as we speak.

No it doesnt panser but you can use those pommy clips from Phill to attach it below. You may not need to as it casts a loong way from the up rod position with an overhead.

Hardy, before grabbing your own, I suggest you wait until it's proven this rod has teeth in the fish landing department. Casting a mile is one thing, it's usually the last twenty metres through the surf where a rod (any rod) needs prove itself.

Good luck with the escape committee. I still believe you need to tread warily using the words ginger and puffs, Veritas could get all behind with their orders.

I have heard a whisper the new cloth rod bag is totally fashion conscious and available in several colours. We all know it takes that little something extra to will go with a new 'Sparkling' white rod.
