From what I've read, the only people reading blogs are other bloggers. In my case, I think even that's being generous. The only time I ever really get serious 'traffic' is when someone reasonably well known tweets a link to a blog post i've done. Whether that be the playwright Torben Betts, the comedian Frankie Boyle, the Al Jazeera America host Mehdi Hassan, or Britain's foremost neo-Nazi, Nick Griffin. Otherwise, it's just a handful of people a day stumbling across it inadvertently via Google. I think that people have finally had their fill of Muslims. The Guardian's comment section confirms this. It's good to see. Yeah, Islamophobia is rife on The Guardian's talkback pages. I don't know whether that's because The Guardian tends to attract right wing sorts who are just looking for a barney with liberals, or whether it's because British liberalism really is that far gone. I suspect it's a bit of both. Either way, the atmosphere tends towards the McCarthyite. |
