I mean, yes, it would be boring as shit to go through that starting patch of grass and level up your Pokemon to level 100 and it would take hundreds of hours but that's the game. You can either do that at the start or gradually throughout the game.
I also don't like how you're basically obligated to always have Pikachu in your party. If you put him away, he doesn't like you and you need him to like you in order to get at least one "special" Pokemon. But what if I don't like Pikachu? What if I want to use a different Pokemon? You're penalised if this is your view, and quite severely. I mean, you can't beat the game if you don't get that bulbasaur. Maybe there's another way to get him but not as far as I'm aware.
I didn't even mention the fact that you also need to have played Pokemon Red and/or Blue in order to catch all 150 Pokemon. Pokemon Red and Blue are effectively the same game as Pokemon Yellow but there are some Pokemon found in those games which aren't available in Pokemon Yellow. So you have to have played one or both of those games to completition, collected all of the Pokemon, and then transfer them via link cable to your Pokemon Yellow save game. I don't know if this required two Gameboys or not but that would be another ridiculous requirement.
It's just crazy. You have to play this tedious as shit game TWICE, effectively, and pay for it twice (as I said, Red/Blue is basically the same game as Yellow) and possibly by a second Gameboy too.
