It's nearly 2 years ago now but we all need to look at ways to cut costs

My fixed 12 month contract with EDF is up on 1st April 2012, they are now quoting me from that date fixed for 12 months

Fixed daily charge 29.00p
Charge per unit 12.43p

I have now changed to British Gas to start from 1st April 2012. After the second billing period they will also credit my account with £100.00

New rate from British Gas (12 month contract, direct debit every quarter)

Daily charge 24.16p
Charge per unit 9.42p

This does seen strange as energy prices seem to be going up, but from 1st April I will be paying LESS than I was 2 years ago

Trade Waste Disposal:

We have a 600lt wheely Bin from the local council (Reigate & Banstead) who will only do a weekly pick up and charge us £650:00 per year (no negotiation)

Found a company in Brighton that was willing to do a 2 week pick up, hence halving our waste disposal cost, they pick up from the unit next door anyway

It pays to do a bit of homework on your business running costs

PS: When I rang EDF to get better price, the lady on the phone was a bit unhelpful, she could come down very slightly, but told me a cheaper rate was not available in my area.....hence they lost a customer

Will give Reigate and Bastead a bit of praise as our business rates have been halved for the last year and will be the same for this year
