Hi Well we are auto electricians and have been working for 23 years mobile and i have no intention of stopping unless i want to. we do trade work and private ( at home or work)and nearly always off the highway. I have always told customers that we cannot install accesories in public car parks. I think as long as we are discreet there will be no problem. This morning I repaired a headlight fault outside a home on a quiet side street, which could become technically illegal but as long as we dont start removing a complete facias and jobs are taking a short time (most of ours are 30 -45 mins)I cant see a problem. This legislation is aimed at people who leave their cars up on ramps for days doing engine swaps, covering the road with oil ( as can be seen on council estates, (I lived in one once--so I'm just stating a fact)). The worst case scenario i think is that we will have to insist that non breakdown work is done on private land, which in our case is not too much of a problem but could be if your business is in an area of high density housing -- but surely that already is ---how can you install an alarm system in a narrow road with terraced housing on both sides without causing a nuisance. Its a long time since I saw a mobile mechanic doing a clutch in the road so I dont think we should be getting too worked up about it---this government can even invade another country without electoral approval so they can pass almost any law they want. I live in a nice suburb where drinking is illegal in the street and they cant even stop 14 year olds from doing that, so bring it on I say Well thats it folks I,m off my soap bx regards Barry
