Hi Peter
A local engine builder was nearly taken to court over a case where valve guides hadn't been replaced on a head overhaul and the customer thought they should have been.
Customer was quoting tolerances from a book.
Engine builder ( 40 years in the game ) used the argument 'A trained hand' WROTE the book !!
It never went to court but it would have been interesting.
Too much paper in a mechanical trade, we'll end up like doctors and police. One hour doing the job, the rest filling in crap to cover our backs incase someone accuses us of being incompetent.
Ah well, it all goes on the labour rate in the end ;-)
