Strength thing isn't really an issue John.Everyone has there limits, some male mechanics can be quite weedy. There is always another way,eg longer lever, removing heavy wheels close to ground.I employed a small young female mechanic a couple of years ago with few problems. There were some advantages. She was good at interior jobs like reaching behind dashboards.Female customers were well impressed.Bad points, mobile phone & language was far worse than the men when angry Unfortunatly she left to start a family, always a risk.Fortunatly she didn't qualify for maternity pay, also a risk.
Be very carefull about rejecting a female candidate over a male. There are some nasty penalties for sex discrimination.
