As some-one who has been on the receiving end of Mark’s “What happens when .. ..?” Or, “if you do this, what will the effect of that be?” on a few occasions. I will admit it can be frustrating if you cannot work it out.
On one occasion I said to him .. “Give me the answer & I’ll work it out backwards”.
“NO” came the stern reply. A minute or two later .. Bang the penny dropped and I will remember that particular systems operation always.
It’s, if you have to fight or work hard for something, you are not going to forget it.
So, as Mark says
>>>“However if the person has to think about it and do a bit of research, then he or she starts to understand the system they are working on and that information stays with the person for life.”<<<
Tony B:
>>>"holier than thou, I know the answer but you don't replies",<<<
Sorry mate, although I CAN see your point of view, I disagree with it & err to MOM’s comment of, >>> Holier than thou no, concerned at the level of knowledge from a greater than is acceptable proportion of our industry yes.<<<
MOM: >>> In Adrians case, surely the next thing to do would be to look up what his fault codes mean (which I did when I read Marks response).<<<
I also did that but, was not aware that clearing them would have the effect it did. So maybe your following comment is not a terrible idea.
>>>We once had a theory/education board on here although I think it had a stigma for aprentices so it failed to work, maybe we need one again. for new members.<<<
In my own case, I have recently arrived at the diagnostics world & freely admit it is more through necessity than choice. The phrase “every thing has a bloody wire coming from it nowadays” will, I’m sure, be recognised by most people.
Liam:
>>>I do read through all the posts when I have time and I do remember bits of info that have then helped when I have similar problems come into my place. Just one of those bits of info that saves me time on one job easily covers the cost to be a member of UKAT.<<<
I also do that & glean a fair bit of information that has & will, hopefully, help in the future.
I make no apologies for long post either !!
On closing, this post is not meant to suck up to anybody or to p**s off anybody.
This opinion is mine .. .. I paid good money for it.
Cheers, Tony.
PS Adrian, how is this coming on now ??
