Had vehicle back in again. Replaced ignition leads and ran through the valve clearences, made a lot of difference but still there, although the speedo seems to be ok now even though the VSS fault still comes up in the ECU. I still think this is ignition/cyl breaking down. Compression check showed cyl 1 and 2 at around 100-110 cyl 3 at 70 cyl 4 at 160 2nd test showed cyl 1 and 2 at around 135 cyl 3 at 115 cyl 4 still at 160 wet tested and cyl 1 at 165 cyl 2 at 180 cyl 3 and 4 at 210. Gonna pull the engine apart next week and rebuild, see if that helps, even if it doesnt theres still a compression problem there and it does consume a little bit of oil with no leaks anyway.
