As ive already mentioned Bryan, it was booked in a couple months ago for me to fix the oil usage, that was a seperate repair, the misfire happened a few weeks ago, i cant really diagnose the misfire when its using oil. As you though, i do like to get to the bottom of a fault, if it doesnt have a clock over it, its nice to have a vehicle left with you that you can do in between jobs. And there wasnt much discusion with the customer, i really did try but i would get more sense from a loaf of bread. She would phone me up when the oil light was on and i would top the oil up, then this misfire which she described as running funny and holding back, and she wasnt bothered what i did to the car cos she didnt understand, just as long as it was fixed, lol.

But i have got to the bottom of the erratic speedo/misfire fault, the two would happen together. Believe it of not, it was the ignition coil. The confusing part was the erratic speedo, you would expect that to give the misfire fault, and the only fault being logged in the ECU was 'intermittent speedo signal'. The only reason i can give for this is maybe the HT was travelling up the primary when the coil was breaking down and interferring with the ECU speedo signal. If i had time to spare i would have liked to study the primary and speed signal pins on the ECU when the fault was present.
