Renault Clio 1.2 D4F712 2001 - Non start - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2001 Engine Size and Code *: 1149 d4f712 ( Optional ) ECU Type: marelli 5nr.c2 ( Optional ) Scanner Used: dec & solus ( Optional) Fault Codes: none
Hi i,ve got this little beauty in broken down whilst driving. immobiliser light goes out, but the red engine stop light is flashing (overheat as far as i can learn), coolant temp is accurate. stripped out the loom, checked wiring, cleaned & checked operation of 3 black relays in fuse box, load tested feeds & negs. to ecu added extra earth to ecu casing whilst ecu loose on top of engine, repaired chafes to loom from security cage. i have full comms with everything as far as i'm aware, but i think the ecu is at fault, tried another ecu as it was cheap & maverick were unsure whether dec can code it or not, there is no option available in special functions. does the ecu have to be coded to the uch using key codes? or does the uch have to be recoded to the ecu using keycodes? the reason i ask is i can pull the keycodes & viginise the uch with truecode, dec has the option to configure the ecu & i should then be able to recode the keys
does anyone know/done this procedure please or do i get the immobiliser removed, which is possible but takes time.
thanks in advance, Steve

I thought ecu's were one time use and locked but as you say you maybe able to overcome this by your method with truecode REE1 software.
But I would think you may need to use a new key fob as this I'd guess also be locked to the uch & ecu.
The problem I can see is how will you get the code to match the used ecu because I thought you need to know the truecode or immobiliser code to learn the uch and pair it with ecu.
Wouldn't it be easier to get a set from a donor car.

hi lee it probably is easier & most likely the route 'll end up taking, but i won't learn much that way & it'll take longer

I agree its nice to learn as we go along.
I just thought with renault you couldn't change both ecu and uch at the same time because I understand it that it gets the code from one or the other when pairing.
So basically you can reset the uch to a as new state but how will you know what the immobiiser code is for the ecu your using as a replacement?
And what is the key fob matched to, UCH or engine ecu.
Is there a way to source the code from the donor car with the vin number.
Please post the outcome.
thanks lee

I may well be corrected by someone with better knowledge on this but..... I thought the ECU coded to the UCH, you can code a new engine ECU to the UCH, but a used ECU will need to be virginised before you can use a 2nd hand unit. Are you sure its not a UCH (immobilsor) fault? We have replaced several UCH boards on clios. The flashing red light means the engine is immobilised.
Sometimes I have been able to leave the UCH disconnected for 10 minutes or so and then it's been ok.
Keep us updated
Nick

Hi i'm waiting for an ecu kit to arrive having spoken to the owner she prefers this method. the flashing red light is the picture of an engine in red that says stop( overheat light apparently), not the red immobiliser led. i'll post when i've got the parts fitted

My apoligies, I assumed you meant the red LEd was flashing.
