That the professional politicians have made such a mess of Brexit, indicates, at the very least, how massively complex, detailed, and gargantuan the whole enterprise really is. What's surprising is how many people pretend that non-professional people, non-politicians, compared to the MPs have a deeper and greater understanding of what's happeining and the costs involved.
This idea that the 'people know best' about something like pulling out of the EU, considering the poor level of knowledge about the EU in the UK, seems very odd to me indeed. Why do people imagine that 'amateurs' know and understand more than 'professionals'?
It seems to me that on the left and right the leave vote was based mostly on emotions and feelings about the UK and the EU, and not on foundation based on sober, calm analysis based on facts. Maybe we really are leaving the era of rationality and moving into one based on other things?
