The view from Europe is, if one talks to Europeans, is that the English massively overestimate their power and importance, the quality and strength of their institutions and economy. This is because the British really haven't come to terms with losing their Empire and their diminshed role in the world politically and economically. Perhaps this is why the British are so nostaligic about the past and squander so many resources on their military and seem to actually like fighting overseas wars, compared to most other European nations. The British attitude looks like they thing that Europe should be grateful that they stoop to join Europe and should infact pay them for the 'privilege.' Brexit is beginning to resemble one of the greatest mistakes in British history, and God there have been enough of them over the last one hundred years, yet this latest one is entirely self-inflicted which seems to defy all reason.
