At least Thatcher had a certain... 'charm' and although she was stubborn, it was really a steely determination to push her counter-revolution forward. At least one could sort of have 'respect' for Thatcher's vicious competence and hard-nosed intelligence. With May it's so different. What you see and hear is really what you get, and that's not very much at all. Whatever happened to British politics where someone like this ends up as PM?
In many ways the UK is a kind of 'republic' and has been for centuries. Only Power was taken from the monarch and invested in the PM, who was allowed to rule like an electe monarch under our system, which produced strong parties and monarchs regardless of what the majority of voters thought or even wanted. An elected dictatoship that transformed minority parties into majority rule. The tyranny of the majority, which is what people often feared democracy would lead towards.
The DUP are just as scathing in their views on May today as Baer is.
