I've already explained how reversing abstentionism will lead to conflict Archived Message

Sinn Fein have already tempered militaristic republicanism many times over. If they take their seats all of that work will be demolished. Their organisation will be seriously weakened and violent splinter groups like Continuity IRA and Real IRA will be emboldened. You think they have a responsibility to stop conflict starting up again and you're correct. However, sitting in the HoC would be the opposite: completely irresponsible. As you're no doubt aware, Sinn Fein's raison d'être is a united Ireland. Currently, there's a majority in favour of this in the Republic. Support for it in the North has been hovering around the 33% mark. However, in the event of Brexit the indications are this figure would be significantly increased. Meanwhile, the DUP is attracting a lot of criticism for their role in the Brexit debate. Brexit is looking good for Sinn Fein. There is zero incentive for these 'dangerous fanatics' to take their seats.
