Machiavelli and marx is hardly an apt comparison. Too optimistic/utopian? Marx mostly analysed capitalism rather than planning utopias as far as i knew. (i'm not a marxist (i don;t think), though neither was marx according to him). Anyway, I say: 'Be realistic, demand the impossible' (some person from paris 68) - or 'things are only impossible until they aren't' (jean-luc picard). I won't give in to people in power when they tell me that fairness and justice are utopian and impossible. Someone like corbyn getting so close to power (yet so far away), was 'impossible' a few years ago.
