We are all on an individual journey, an individual quest of some sort, maybe some kind individual self-improvement, overcoming inner or outer obstacles, maybe one of knowing the self - the spiritual or psychological self. maybe a Buddhist quest. Maybe one of trying to be a good example to others. Where I see a distinction, and this is only my personal opinion, would be the notion that the above is to the exclusion of what you, Twirlip may refer to as 'common cause', and which others may refer to as solidarity. I do not see an individual struggle as a substitute for solidarity, or for battles won together with others. I feel that this is a big part of Peterson's sleight of hand. My personal ethic is to struggle to try to be the best I can be, but this is absolutely not a quest to be better than others because we are all irrevocably connected. It is simply a personal challenge to get the most out of the human condition in the short time we are here. At the end of the day, if we are fortunate enough individually achieve, we can vastly magnify the satisfaction if we are able to share the joy. Respecfully, Shyaku.
