An interesting snippet: In 2015 Canada’s forests emitted the equivalent of 231 million metric tons of CO2. By comparison, the total population of the city for Calgary emitted 18.3 million metric tons of CO2, merely a fraction of the amount released by the forests, largely via drought and wildfires. It would be good to see the full carbon-budget of Calgary in terms the oil extraction, Calgary being the center for Canada's oil and gas industry. Still, it's illustrative of the feed-back mechanism, now with the effects of methane in the permafrost that is getting released. Methinks it will get a lot worse more rapidly than thought now : ( Another interesting aspect would be the fact that the infrastructure will have to be re-built. Will they let it deteriorate until lost, or will the climate change bean-counters enter into the equation with the consequential re-boot into another, carbon-costed economy? I am not holding my breath, but you never know : ) They'll probably blame China ... Cheers
