Nice to hear- all sane options and stuff I think every uk farmer should be doing if for no other reason than it makes them more independent. But there are massive positives apart from that of course. I've not heard of logging as a big reason for felling in the Amazon (last I looked into it I thought they were bulldozing and burning over logging - like they've done for too long in parts of Queensland, Australia to open up land).
It's a funny thing though; I still constantly read that they do it to graze cattle (therefore cattle/beef industry is bad for the environment ). I thought it was cropping related and you say logging as a first and original reason. Theoretically chain of custody should prevent logging being profitable, except we know that doesn't work (imo timber shouldn't be exportable anywhere from anywhere- it would Immediately sort out profit from bad practise forestry, and if people lived in places that didn't grow nice timbers, it would prOmpt new forestry). Past that, just cutting dependence on protein crops from n and s America would go a long way to at least stopping the deforestation remaining permanent.
I believe you, but do you recall where you were reading about logging as a first stage in the Amazon? It's logical of course, but I'd be interested to read about it. Thanks
