Just about all of the maybe 1000 trees (probably a lot more but that's about what was growing well) I planted in town since I moved here have been destroyed now by a combination of council and railways (none planted anywhere in a stupid place- all merely extended the natural growing back of some 'wild' places. But they found a way to make money off wasteland and despite what they local residents had to say, it was simply bulldozed. All the big tree trunks were simply cut and buried, everything else graded into oblivion. You can spend years trying to make a difference and it can be all over in a day or two. Hasn't stopped my resolve but I'll admit I'm on tree growing hiatus for a bit. I've found a place or two I can plant with a half decent chance they'll remain for a while so I'll start trying again soon!
