Thanks Keith, it's a good point. Hard to see how a person can claim parliament itself democratic (even representative wise) when the system that elects those reps and the govt it stands for is not. I mean who vividly recalls going to place their vote for either Johnson or may? And for me, with the exception of our current mp (Ruth George) who is very good on following up local constituent issues, the past 4 have been very good at pretending the constituents did not exist (labour or Tory made no difference ). On foreign affair issues and national issues, nearly all fall in line with party regardless of how constituents plead. If that's democracy then we really do live in a bizarro world when that 'democracy' is staunchly defended as such by intelligent people. The more I read the more it becomes apparent that US fear infection has hit the uk in a big way. Most folk really are joining Henny Penny and goosey loosey in their quest to the King and doing so because they sincerely believe the sky is falling. I was in London briefly last week (couldn't leave quick enough!) and was reminded of the obvious: Westminster all the way down the river there, Whitehall all the way up here. The latter doesn't really need the former. Westminster is more of a crèche for the remedial and badly behaved boys and girls. It keeps them out of mischief and the population distracted while the real leaders get on with doing what they please. Anyone who really believes otherwise I think has not been paying attention. The fact there's a petition to stop the suspension now going on proves that most Brits don't realise the country gets on fine every year with a massive parliamentary holiday and poor attendance the rest of the year, or that fear for the unknown has overtaken good old fashioned common sense. We know that even no deal has a deal in place, which is the same in essence as any business has on being transferred to new ownership. We know economic issues will not be left without new deals (made over the next few years and the old in place until the ). Brexit may allow Johnson to screw the country but only because everyone is convinced the mere act of it is what will screw the country rather than deals he makes after the fact while everyone is looking the other way. Everyone needs to reinstall their ability to reason and think logically and start focusing on what may be a problem. What I get when reading fear mongering (sincerely from fearful people) is the underlying comfort. No one can be like that and be living in a socioeconomic world where every week is a challenge, where they have had to uproot and change (and lose) everything year on year, to start again over and over. Such living prevents a person from being fearful over maybes and what ifs. Such living is not a lifestyle choice either, but actual poverty (according to recognised attributes). So from my perspective, when people tell me it will be worse without the eu, what they're telling me is they worry they will be. But I know how economic fear works; the more you have the more you fear to lose. It's kind of an immutable rule, and the arguments betray that personal position. And it's more than a little insulting to hear such people telling me it can get worse for me. Of course it ####ing can. Right now, I can still (just) pay my rent. Maybe next year I can't, but I know plenty of others who haven't been able to for years, so I know it's not the eu keeping that wolf from the door... I've just come to terms with that already (since I was last homeless). It's not that scary. What is scary is a country full of people immobilised from attempting something difference because of fear. Because that means all hope is lost. As my partner said, were living in exciting times now. Who knows what will happen? Sorry for the ramble.
