Well, that's got thesis and anti-thesis going. What I hope to see eventually, to get something Archived Message

substantive from the climate strike upheaval, is synthesis. That's where we manage to hold several jostling ideas in mind, as all being equally true, at one time: Yes, emphatically, there is a climate shift-crisis and something effective needs to be done; and yes, the gics are trying to astroturf the grassroots movement that's providing the idealistic foot-soldiers right now - mostly straight, principled radical activists, apart from one or two rather dubious 'leaders'. People I'm tempted to call 'Lansmanalikes'. Robust awareness and blocking action needs to be maintained against those scummy manipulators, to keep the movement actually producing whatever genuinely useful effects it will eventually prove to have. That's to say: It has to have a forthrightly anti-capitalist standpoint that recognises the centrality of class struggle in this matter, as well as in everything else. Oh, and add in an equally forthright recognition that there is no market-led, green-growth, 4th-gen techytechy solution to the crisis possible, because growth-obsession, techno-narcissm (h/t Jim Kunstler's coinage), and capitalist marketeering are major causes of it. All that tendentious poison needs to be offed unequivocally and robustly. It's actually quite possible to hold all those - essential - perceptions as true, at once. I do. Btw, Dmitry Orlov has just published an 'Open letter to Greta' which weighs in with some further, equally cogent considerations about this, including about just what we can really know for certain about climate variability, from all causes (answer: not much with any solid certainty). But unfortunately I can't give you a link to that, because its only available on Patreon (boo! compromised!) or SubscribeStar (still watching) for the time being; sorry. I expect it will appear on Russia Insider in a short while, as usually happens.
