A couple of points The general narrative on pollution control has however, nearly disappeared I don't see that at all. For the first time in a long time I actually praised the BBC for this recent series https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0005xgz/war-on-plastic-with-hugh-and-anita-series-1-episode-1 (+later episodes) where they show how deeply polluted the world is with plastics (in the oceans, at the very small scale, in the air around us, plus via "recycling" in dumping grounds in South East Asia). To solve climate change we either need to crush capitalism or ... Well, partially true. Of course, the former USSR under communism and present-day China (a form of state capitalism or state communism?) have been/are large polluters. So, even though a bigger share of the blame goes to the West (mainly because they've been at it longer and their populations are richer), pollution (incl. CO2 emissions) is not unique to capitalism. ... force the capitalists to do techno engineering to alleviate it (a terrible idea!). I agree -- a terrible idea. But "the capitalists" wouldn't survive long if we -- en masse -- stopped buying much of their unnecessary products. Eg the streets around here are filled to the brim with cars, many of them SUVs.
