Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones, however, died at the hands of an Islamist fanatic so we can't possibly examine the ideology that motivated their killer - let's all hold hands instead and sing Kumbaya, that should do it.
The origins of that fanaticism is pretty close to home, i.e. our own governments' criminal policies in the middle east stretching back many decades. Ignore that, i.e. the one thing we can do something about and the major cause of such hatred, and "examining the ideology" is about as effective as holding hands and singing Kumbaya, and just as rational. One of the institutions that is greatest barrier to such honesty is the media, so in that sense it *is* the Daily Mail, which not only covers up the connection between imperialism and terrorist blowback, but promotes bigotry and scapegoating to absolve the state actors and demonize a race/religion.
